Do You Wanna Know What's Wrong With This Country?

Quite simply put, we don't make things like this anymore.

Flag protocol defines the proper placement, handling and use of flags. Some countries have added certain protocols into their law system while others prefer to have "guidelines" without civil or criminal consequences attached. According to United States Code found in Title 4, Chapter 1 pertaining to patriotic customs and observances: §8(k) "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning." Alternatives to burning are being investigated, due to the nature of modern materials used in flags, namely nylon, toxic smoke is released when burned.

Plastic bags have become the standard of carrying groceries and department store finds. However, plastic bags have had a negative impact on marine life, leading to an increase in both injury and death of several species, most notably the leatherback turtle. While plastic bag use remains the norm, there are successful campaigns working to turn the tide. While leatherback turtles are often the focus because of their endangered status, several species of fish, seabirds and other turtles heavily rely on jellyfish for their food. In viewing the complete food cycle, the effects can have a dramatic effect not only on the higher predators who ingest these plastic bags, but also on the overabundance of jellyfish populations which can occur.

Here's volume IV of the ongoing Girls of Facebook series, and I think it might be the hottest batch yet. There's also a link back, in case you've missed the earlier versions, I, II and III.

As the International Space Station is boosted into a higher orbit, Expedition 29 Commander Mike Fossum and Flight Engineers Satoshi Furukawa and Sergei Volkov float freely to demonstrate the acceleration of the orbiting complex.

Megan Denise Fox is an American actress and model. She began her acting career in 2001 with several minor television and film roles, and played a regular role on Hope & Faith. In 2004, she launched her film career with a role in Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. In 2007, she was cast as Mikaela Banes in the blockbuster film Transformers, which became her breakout role. Fox reprised her role in the 2009 sequel, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Later in 2009, she starred as the titular lead character in the film Jennifer's Body. Fox is considered a sex symbol and frequently appears on men's magazine "Hot" lists, including Maxim and FHM. In 2004, she began dating Brian Austin Green, of Beverly Hills 90210 fame, after reportedly having met on the set of Hope & Faith. They were involved in an on-again, off-again relationship, before marrying in June 2010. In September 2008, Fox alluded to being bisexual in an interview with GQ magazine. She said that, when she was 18 years old, she fell in love with and sought to establish a relationship with a female stripper. She used this experience to illustrate her belief that "all humans are born with the ability to be attracted to both sexes" and additionally showed interest in Olivia Wilde. In May 2009, she confirmed her bisexuality. In the June 2009 issue of ELLE, however, she stated that she somewhat distorted the events of her relationship with the stripper, saying she has given certain male writers "an amped-up version" of her past.

Hi Ern, I imagine you've gotten a few emails on this already, but just in case - I'm pretty sure that's not an M1 Carbine. Looks like a larger cartridge than .30 carbine, the mag release is incorrect, and the receiver set screw above the trigger housing (I assume that's what that screw is for) isn't found on the M1. Beats the hell out of me what it is though... Anyway, thanks as always for a great site - hope all's well down in FLA. JP in Montana

Before I ran to the eye bleach, I noticed that your picture of the M1 Carbine is actually a not very well cared for Mini-14 from Ruger. Your picture - Mini-14. But you still kick ass. TTFN, Andrew

thats not a m1, magazines too long (yuk yuk). maybe a mini 14, (double yuk yuk). tommy

Ernie, Long time reader. I know I'm not the only one to let you know but that isn't an M1 carbine. Having stood about 6 feet away from a negligent discharge with one at a gun show, I know all too well that is a Ruger Mini 14. The 5.56 round will penetrate a 10 inch wooden post, pass through an arm and still have enough to enter a persons upper back and exit the chest. I was standing next to the post. Everyone is still with us. The check is in the mail for LBEH. Keep up the good fight. John

Yep, you guys are absolutely right. All I looked at was the forestock, which made me think M1. But if I had looked at the distance to between the trigger group and the magazine... sure nuff... Mini-14 -- a pre-19080's, based upon the link Andrew sent. But hey, you know me, I'm a head shakin fool.

Fender Musical Instruments Corporation, commonly referred to as simply Fender, of Scottsdale, Arizona is a manufacturer of stringed instruments and amplifiers, such as solid-body electric guitars, including the Stratocaster and the Telecaster. The Fender headstock logo is a great way to quickly get an idea of when a particular instrument was manufactured. Fender has used several styles of logos to adorn the headstocks of their guitars. Generally they fall into 3 different types, Spaghetti, Transition, and CBS. The thin Spaghetti logo comes in two color variations, silver with black trim, and gold with black trim. Between 1952 and 1955 the Esquire has a gold with black trim logo. Stratocasters from 1954 to towards the end of 1964 have a thin Spaghetti logo. The Transition logo was used from towards the end of 1965 through 1967. The CBS logo appears in 1968 and continues until 1980. With the revival of interest in vintage instruments, in the 1980's Fender changed their logo back to using transition and spaghetti logos, depending on the model.

Opie and Anthony are the hosts of The Opie & Anthony Show, a talk radio program airing in the United States and Canada on XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio. Since the merger of the two satellite companies, this is now called Sirius/XM. It is co-hosted by stand up comedian Jim Norton. Currently based in New York City, the show was previously on WXRK-FM and WNEW-FM in New York, and prior to that, on WAAF-FM in Boston, Massachusetts. One of Opie and Anthony's most notable Boston stunts was their giveaway of "100 Grand", which was hyped for weeks. When they finally gave away the prize, the winning caller laid into the duo with biting invective after he realized the repairs he needed to make to his truck would be un-affordable with a 100 Grand candy bar instead of $100,000. I wanna say that was around 1996'ish -- and still it just never gets old. I wonder what ever happened to Craig from Waltham?

Hey Ernie. That redneck link you posted today is about an hour west of me. Check out this interview with him, this guy is fucked up. Here is the link to part one. You can clink on the other parts if ya like. Thought you should know. Ian

Heya Ernie. Redneck who can make anything? More like a pedo freak... jeez! Skinny

Mount Vesuvius is a stratovolcano in the Gulf of Naples, Italy, about 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) east of Naples and a short distance from the shore. It is the only volcano on the European mainland to have erupted within the last hundred years. It was 1944 and the Second World War was raging. In Italy, American airmen were stationed at Pompeii Airfield when the debris started falling, but this was no ordinary wartime air raid. The cinder and rock dropping from the sky were being sent forth by the volcano dominating the horizon: Mount Vesuvius. Overhead, bombers wheeled in the air, their pilots' minds turning from the threat of flack to an altogether more pervasive menace – but the damage the planes would be dealt was on the ground.

There are different kinds of filling materials that dentist commonly use. The two main ones are called amalgam (grey fillings) and composite (white fillings). Grey fillings are made of an alloy of several metals which include silver, copper, zinc, tin and mercury. This alloy called amalgam is used to fill a tooth. Amalgam does not become hard instantly after the procedure. It takes about 24 hours for a grey filling to harden completely. Dentists recommend waiting one hour after the procedure to eat anything, and to wait 24 hours before eating solid foods. White fillings are made of composite, which is a white paste of resin that hardens instantly when exposed to blue light. Therefore, if you have just had a white filling, you can eat and drink right after the procedure.
