A 5-year-old girl was fatally shot while sitting on her grandfather's lap when two people approached her Milwaukee home and opened fire, according to police, who sought help Friday in finding the suspects. Laylah Petersen was shot in the head when one of a dozen bullets that hit the home came through a wall about 6 p.m. Thursday. Laylah, who was sitting on a couch with her grandfather, died at a hospital. Investigators said there was no clear motive for the shooting and they needed the public's help to find those responsible for the shooting on the city's northwest side. Police said officers had no previous calls to the home, and they don't believe anyone living at the home was specifically targeted.
That was almost a month ago, as Laylah was slain on the evening on November 6th. To date there have been no riots demanding her killer be brought to justice. Neither Al Shaprton or Jesse jackson have sought to comfort and counsel her family through their sorrow. Eric Holder did not visit Milwaukee and call local law enforcement to task. And He Who Shall Not Be Named certainly did not send representatives of the White House to Laylah's funeral, even though her family did choose to donate her heart so that some other child could live. Instead, her murder goes on unsolved.
Much to my surprise, the most poignant response to her death actually came from Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn -- is it me or does he sound like Alan Alda? I say I'm surprised because 99.3 percent of his own officers have lost confidence in him. But even then he had to slip a comment about his his views on assault weapons, and has spoken out against American Citizen's Second Amendment rights: "My message to my troops is if you see anybody carrying a gun on the streets of Milwaukee, we'll put them on the ground, take the gun away and then decide whether you have a right to carry it."
Not to turn this into a gun debate -- sometime shitty things happen to good people -- but I find it curious how her death garners almost no publc attention, meanwhile, Mr Hands Up Don't Shoot My Stolen Cigars is placed upon the pedestal of public opinion. If you don't see a double standard there, you're either blind or a fucking idiot. So as for Milwaukee law enforcement, I'd prefer the guy over Flynn's head; Milwaukie County Sheriff David Clarke who takes the more sensible approach of advocating personal rersponsibility for ones safety. And in case you're curious, Sheriff Clarke is now in his third term, having been re-elected in November 2006 and 2010, increasing his victory margins to 73% and 74%.
Speaking of law enforcement, I want to make sure I don't get a ticket, so if someone can please show me exactly where this no parking zone is? Thanks in advance.
